IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE THAT WE, THE CCM FOUNDATION, ANNOUNCE CHANDLER HATCH AND CONOR HUGHES AS THE RECIPIENTS OF THE 2010 CRAIG C. MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP.
Through the incredible generosity of a caring and compassionate community we have been able to award two scholarships this year, each worth a total of $10,000.
The Craig Marshall Memorial Surf Contest held May 8th and 9th in Surf City was a huge success thanks to all the sponsors, donors, and volunteers who lent their time and energy to making it a great event. In these two days alone the foundation was able to raise a total of $4,056. The CCM Foundation Benefit Concert held May 6th at the Soapbox Laundro Lounge in downtown Wilmington was also hugely successful, with over 140 people in attendance. Six local bands graced the stage, and the foundation raised a total of $1,478. These sums, in addition to over $7,500 in sponsorship for the Surf Contest as well as the incredible amount of private donations, has enabled us to award two substantial scholarships to two amazing young men. We are so proud to invest in the future of these exceptional individuals.
CHANDLER BROCK HATCH
has proven to embody the exact moral force of character for which this scholarship is aimed. He has shown a true passion for helping others and is actively involved in his community. Chandler acted as Vice-President of the Topsail High School Class of 2010, as well as captain of the Men’s Tennis team and head of the yearbook’s photography department. During the summer between his junior and senior years, Chandler was elected President of the Senate at Boy’s State. But Chandler believes his most important role to date is that of Youth Assistant at his church, Emma Anderson Memorial Chapel, where he has spent his summers leading bible school five days a week. Chandler will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in the fall of 2010 in pursuit of a business degree.
CONOR BRIAN HUGHES
has also proven to exemplify integrity, humility, and generosity throughout his years at Topsail High School. His compassion is seen in the importance he places on creating and nourishing personal relationships, and he is a friend to all those around him. Conor has been an active member of Boy Scout Troop 234 for many years, and has received the prestigious title of Eagle Scout. Conor also helped to lead the Topsail High School Men’s Tennis team to the state championships, and gives much of his time to teaching children tennis techniques. He has also been largely involved in the youth ministry at Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church for seven years, and was a High School Representative during his senior year. Conor will attend East Carolina University in the fall of 2010 in pursuit of a business degree.
