Craig C. Marshall Scholarship Foundation hosts Surf Contest in memory of local student
Surf City, NC, May 8, 2010
Local non-profit set to host the Craig Marshall Memorial Surf Contest, weekend of May 8th and 9th in Surf City. All proceeds fund a scholarship given in honor and memory of Craig Marshall, a local high school student and surfer who passed away last October in Cape Hatteras. Additional events include the CCM Foundation Benefit Concert on Thursday May 6th, and an Awards Ceremony/Concert directly following the Surf Contest on Sunday May 9th.
Surf contest begins at 8am Saturday morning at the Greensboro Ave beach access, just north of the Surf City Pier. Divisions will run on Saturday May 8th from 8am to 5pm, and on Sunday May 9th from 9am to 4pm. Entry forms can be found at local surf shops and online at www.ccmfoundation.com. Deadline for entry forms is May 5th, but beach entries are accepted pending availability. Entry fee is $35 for first division and $10 for each additional entry.
Following the surf contest is an Awards Ceremony/Concert at the Soundside Park Amphitheater located atĀ 517 Roland Avenue in Surf City. Festivities run 5pm to 8pm. BBQ dinner served free to contestants and for a small fee to public. Concert features local musicians Ignite and The Noseriders. CCM Foundation t-shirts and other donated merchandise available for sale and auction. Concert free and open to public.

The CCM Foundation Benefit Concert will be held Thursday, May 6th, upstairs at The Soapbox Laundro Lounge located at 255 North Front Street in downtown Wilmington. Doors at 8pm; show begins 8:30pm. Benefit show features local musicians No Dollar Shoes, Oysterboy, Owl Laws, My Wonderful Machine, James Ethan Clark, and Rachel Ruth Marshall, along with surprise guests. CCM Foundation t-shirts, skateboards, posters, and local art available for sale and auction. Admission $10 at the door.
All proceeds from each event benefit the Craig C. Marshall Scholarship Foundation, awarding a scholarship to an outstanding senior at Topsail High School in Hampstead, NC. Scholarship is given in honor and memory of Craig Marshall, and awards a student who demonstratesĀ moral force of character, leadership, and faith. Scholarship monies are generated solely through aforementioned fundraising events and through generous donations. Recipient of the Craig C. Marshall Scholarship will be announced at the Topsail High School Senior Awards Ceremony held on May 26th.
